Treating Guests




1. – How about a nice cup of tea before you go?

- Yes, I’d love one.

- How do you like it?

- A strong one with three spoons for me, please.

(coffee, cocoa)

2. – Another piece of meat pie?

- No, thanks, really. I’m on a diet.

- Please, do. You’ve hardly eaten anything.

- It’s delicious, but I don’t think I ought to.

(chicken, pudding, cake)

3. – Do have the rest of the chicken.

- No, thank you. I’ve had too much already.

- Just take it to please me.

- OK, but only a small piece or shan`t have room for my pudding.

(meat, potatoes)

4. – Are there any biscuits, please?

- Yes, of course. Would you like one?

- Yes, please.

- Here you are.

( sweets, apples, oranges, tomatoes)

5. – Will you please give me a little more salad?

- Just a moment. Here you are. What about bacon and eggs? Will you have some?

- Yes, I’ll have some, please. And then a cup of strong tea.

(cheese, fish)

6. – Please, come in.

- Thank you.

- Please, sit down. Would you like a cup of tea?

- Yes, please.

- How about a biscuit?

- No, thanks. I’m on a diet.

( a cup of coffee/a sandwich, a glass of milk/a piece of cake, a glass of lemonade/ an apple pie)

7. – Is there any coffee, please?

- Yes, there is.

- May I have some, please.

- Help yourself.

( chocolate, beef, cake)

 

II. Act out the interview:

Divide students into two groups. Group A – representatives of the Special needs Program, group B – students volunteers looking for the work.

Group A: Read the articles and choose the organization to represent and make an advertisement brochure. Make up a background of your organization and a number of questions for interviewee.

Group B: Read the adverts and choose 5 prospective workplaces. Make up questions for interviewer.

Don’t forget to use conversation patterns.

Africa and Asia Venture: Do an intensive teaching course with us in London and then spend 3-4 months in helping in village schools in Tanzania, Uganda, Botswana or Nepal. Accommodation, food and a local salary included. Become involved in sports training at some teaching centers.   African Conservation Experience: Work for 6-9 months on a game reserve in Southern Africa. Help with elephants, assist local vets and monitor animal migration. Training in horseback riding given at the start of the contract.   Changing Worlds: Work for 3-6 months in an orphanage. Opportunities exist in Australia, Canada and New Zealand and in India or Chile. The Year in Industry: Work for 9-12 months in a UK industry in the Business, Science, Engineering or IT sectors. Well paid and with special training as part of the job.   Outreach International: Help teach art and craft or dance on volunteer projects in Mexico and Cambodia. These placements include work with disabled and special needs children. Language training given at the start of the contract.   Trekforce Expeditions: Go on a 2-5 month expedition to collect important scientific data in the South American jungle. These projects are tough and very rewarding. Volunteers spend weeks away from inhabited areas.
