At first let’s analyze attitude to rock of modern society. Historically rock music in the USA was as a part of development of music culture in the country and it was born there long ago.

Indicator of relation to this music in Russia is image formed in the country: rock music is an expression of protest and hooliganism. And it is an image, which was imposed to people by Russian government.

Next, let me say about role of this music in cultural life of country. In the USA rock is treated like an important tool for controlling leisure of people. Unfortunately such a way is underestimated in Russia. Government in our country can use it and try to find ways how to make such spending of leisure be as going to theatre or to football match. As an example we can take music lessons in USA, where history of rock music is being talked about, and positive attitude is formed as an important part of history. Bands, which appear in schools, also accustom teenagers since early years to alternative positive spending of leisure as repetition and showing their talents and results to their friends and teachers.

Image that is formed in our country don’t promote wild and qualified spread of rock. It goes on living as protest.

The last thing is age of people who listen to rock, visit concerts. In the USA on rock concert you can meet people of very different age. There can be teenagers, adults and grown ups, sometimes you can meet their people older. In Russia growing up people usually lose their interest to foreign rock music, they prefer listening to Russian singers and as you can see from this chart, foreign rock is mostly popular with people under 30 years. Russian rock is popular with people who are 30-50 years old, people who grew up with this music, who know it very well, and love it.

These charts help us to see that only a small part of music on Russian stage is occupied with rock music. Mostly it’s occupied with pop music. Other situation is in the USA, rock occupies nearly a part of all performed music.
