Word orderFrequency adverbs: very often, frequently, every(day), often, three times a(week), quite often, sometimes, twice a(month), occasionally, once a (day), always, nearly always, usually, normally, hardly ever, rarely, never - come before a main verb: e.g. Iusually watch the news. They come after the verb to be : e.g. We’rerarely late for classes. They can also start or end a sentence (except for always, never, hardly ever, rarely. But, always and never can start imperative sentences however.) E.g. Sometimes I watch the news. I watch the news occasionally. You can add negatives: don’t often/usually/ always/ ever. BUT you can’t add negatives with sometimes, occasionally, never, hardly ever. Task I. Make the sentences true for you. E.g.I go to the hairdresser once a month. a. I go to the hairdresser once a week. / I never go to the hairdresser. b. I don’t often go to the hairdresser – maybe once a year. 1. I usually remember my friends’ names. 2.I quite often watch game shows on TV. 3. I use the Internet every day. 4.I never walk on my own at night. 5. I’m rarely late for classes. Task II. Compare your answers with a group - mate. Ask him/her questions. E.g.1.How often do you go to the hairdresser? 2.Do you ever buy a lottery ticket?... etc. Comparison. Simple or continuous? The Present Progressive(Continuous) - be( am,is are)+V +ing
