The Automation and Electrical Mechanics Department

The Automation and Electrical Mechanics Department is one of the oldest departments of the University. Graduates of the department work successfully in almost all industries: aircraft, automobile, shipbuilding and others. The graduates most capable for scientific research, work at scientific research institutes, educational centres as well as at the departments of the University. The teaching staff of the Departments consists of mainly Technical University graduates; among them there are 8 Professors, Doctors of Science (Sc. D.), and 56 Candidates of Science (PHD). The Department has post-graduate courses headed by Professors, Doctors of Science.

Students of the department are aimed at gaining knowledge in general subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, programming etc. In senior courses they study special subjects namely electric machinery, ship electric power systems, ship automated electric drives and systems; high voltage technology, electrical equipment of power stations, automatics and telemechanics, reliability and efficiency of power supply systems; electric drive theory, automatic control theory, automated designing systems and some others.

Industrial training is also included into the course. It takes place at the plants, industrial enterprises, design bureaus, electric power stations and substations or aboard the ship.

Capable students are involved in research at the Scientific Students’ Society. This is where much of their talent is being developed. The members of the Society solve both theoretical and practical problems.

On graduating from the Technical University the students have many possibilities to choose from. The graduates may work in any field of electric power industry.
