Ukraine

We are citizens of Ukraine. It is an independent state which is located in the south-eastern part of Europe. It occupies the territory of about 603700 square kilometers. The population of the country is about 48 million people. Ukraine is a multinational state inhabited by representatives of more than 100 nationalities. The state language is Ukrainian.

The country borders on Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Poland, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia. It is washed by the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

The territory of Ukraine is mainly flat, the mountains are only in the west (The Carpathians) and in the south (The Crimean Mountains). The climate of the country is mild. As a rule, snow falls in winter, but it never lies on the ground very long. Spring and summer are usually sunny, in autumn it often rains.

Ukraine is a highly developed country with high industrial and agricultural potential. It is rich in raw materials and has deposits of iron, coal, salt, manganese, limestone, nickel and other natural resources. The leading industries of Ukraine are metallurgy, aircraft, shipbuilding, machine building, coal-mining and others. The country produces planes, ocean liners, locomotives, robots, tractors, excavators, microscopes, synthetic diamonds and other goods. Agriculture is an important part of economy because the rich soil is favourable for its development. Ukraine grows sugar-beet, wheat, vegetables, fruit, sunflower. It is a famous producer of dairy products, meat and poultry.

Kyiv with the population of more than 2 million is the capital of the country. It is one of the most beautiful city in Europe with long history. Tourists from different countries of the world come to enjoy its beauties and historical monuments.

Ukraine combines the elements of presidential and parliament republic. The parliament is called Verkhovna Rada.
