The Future Continuous Tense




Study the rule “The Future Continuous Tense” and train your knowledge doing the following exercises:

 

Ex. 1. Transform the sentences according to the models:

Model 1: Are you going to help him?
Will you be helping him?

1. Are you going to stay in Odessa? 2. Are you going to have fruit for lunch? 3. When are you going back to the University? 4. Are you going to visit the Browns again this week? 5. When are you going to have your next lecture on French art? 6. What are you going to have for dinner?

Model 2: You will call her up tomorrow.
Will you call her up tomorrow?
Will you be calling her up tomorrow?

1. You will write to him again. 2. You will see your mother next week. 3. You will take the children to the Zoo this Saturday. 4. You will look through the papers. 5. You will have tea.

 

Ex. 2. Give negative forms of the following sentences:

 

1. He will be waiting for you at seven in the evening. 2. They will be having dinner at that time. 3. We shall be discussing this question tomorrow morning. 4. They will be packing tomorrow. 5. I shall be meeting my old friends in Kyiv soon. 6. He will be translating an article form 8 till 10 tomorrow. 7. My boyfriend will be waiting for me at 7 o’clock. 8. You will be having a rest all day long tomorrow. 9. I shall be playing tennis from 5 till 7 tomorrow. 10. We shall be building a country house all the summer.

 

Ex. 3. Give interrogative forms of the following sentences:

 

1. I’ll be working at my French at 12 o'clock tomorrow.

2. She'll be making a report at this time tomorrow.

3. We'll be watching TV tonight.

4. You'll be waiting for me at 3 p.m. tomorrow.

5. My sister will be explaining this rule to me when you come.

6. She will be playing the piano at 9 p.m. tomorrow.

7. He will be working in the lab at the usual time tomorrow.

8. I shall be seeing her tomorrow.

9. She will be leaving for Kiev soon.

 

Ex. 4. Put questions to the words in bold type:

 

1. I shall be taking my friends out to dinner tomorrow night. 2. We shall be packing if they come at nine. 3. They will be discussing the teacher's words at this time tomorrow. 4. I shall be seeing the engineers tomorrow afternoon. 5. My friends will be waiting for you at 6 o’clock at the railway station. 6. We’ll be stayingat home all the day tomorrow. 7.This child will be askingyou questions all the time. 8. We’ll be swimming in the riverat 12 o’clock tomorrow. 9. It will be raining cats and dogs the whole day tomorrow. 10. I’ll be wearing these trousersall the time at the office.

 

Ex. 5. Fill in the gaps using the verbs in the Future Continuous or Present Indefinite:

Ex. 6. Answer the questions paying attention to the Future Continuous Tense:

 

1. What will you be doing at three o'clock tomorrow?
2. Will you be hurrying home after classes?
3. What time shall we be meeting tomorrow?
4. Do you know when you will be taking your English exam this year?

5. Where will you be going for your holidays?

6. Will you be smoking if your doctor says that you shouldn’t?

7. Will you be crying if you hurt your arm?

8. Will you be sleeping when we return home?

9. Will you be using my computer when I am not at home?

10. Will you be learning French if I help you?

 

Ex. 7. Open the brackets using the Present, Past or Future Continuous Tense:

 

1. We … (to pack) for our trip when a friend of mine came. What … (to do) you ? Won’t you have time enough to do it tomorrow? (to work) ... you . . . still . . . if I come in an hour? - No, we shan’t. We . . . (to watch) TV. Tom and Betty are going to join us.
2. The train . . . (to leave) when we got to the station. “We are late again,” Pete said . “And the next train . . . (to come) at 2”. So we . . . (to wait) on the platform for an hour and a half.

3. I … (to cook) dinner while my sister … (to clean) the flat when we heard a telephone call.

 

Ex. 8. Open the brackets using the Future Indefinite or the Future Continuous Tense:

 

1. I (to think) about you.

2. We (not to fly) to Spain.

3. Next month an expedition (to leave) for the North. This expedition (to work) there from January till May.

4. We (to paint) the picture the whole morning tomorrow.

5. They (not to have) an English lesson tomorrow at 9 o’clock, they (to have) a Russian lesson.

7. He (not to write) an exercise from 6 till 8 o’clock tomorrow, he (to read) a book.

8. The students (to prepare) for the test the whole day next Sunday.

9. I hope that you (not to forget) my address.

10. I (to speak) to you later.

 

Ex. 9. Translate the following sentences into Russian. Define the tense form:

 

1. I’ll be very busy at the beginning of June. I’ll be taking my exams.

2. I’ll write you a letter.

3. I’ll still be working when you return.

4. Don’t come to my house at five o’clock. I’ll be having an English lesson.

5. What will you be doing at this time tomorrow? – I‘ll be looking through fresh news papers and magazines.

6. He is reading a book.

7. He will finish his dinner in a few minutes.

8. I’ll be waiting for you at the trolley-bus stop at six o’clock.

9. Don’t ring me up between three and five o’clock. I’ll be working.

10. They were looking for you.

 

Ex.10. Translate into English:

 

1. Завтра у цей час вони гратимуть у футбол.

2. Коли ми приїдемо в Мелітополь, вони зустрічатимуть нас на вокзалі.

3. В цей час на наступному тижні ми будемо подорожувати.

4. Вона буде займатись англійською з 9 до 11? – Так.

5. Що ви будете робити, коли він прийде?

6. Він все іще буде писати, коли ви повернетесь.

7. Ми прийдемо о 5 годині. – Добре, я буду чекати на вас.

8. Він прийде до нас на цьому тижні.
