Когнитивная лингвистика, или: Язык — только одна из когнитивных способностей человека

9.1. Общие задачи

"Когнитивная лингвистика" — направление, в центре вни­мания которого находится язык как общий когнитивный меха­низм.

В сферу жизненных интересов когнитивной лингвистики входят "ментальные" основы понимания и продуцирования речи с точки зрения того, как структуры языкового знания представ­ляются ("репрезентируются") и участвуют в переработке инфор­мации [Кубрякова 1994]. На научном жаргоне последних лет эта задача ставится так: каковы "репрезентации" знаний и процеду­ры их обработки? Обычно полагают, что репрезентации и соот-

ветствующие процедуры организованы модульно, а потому под­чинены разным принципам организации.

В отличие от остальных дисциплин когнитивного цикла, в когнитивной лингвистике рассматриваются те и только те когни­тивные структуры и процессы, которые свойственны человеку как homo loquens. А именно, на переднем плане находятся си­стемное описание и объяснение механизмов человеческого усвое­ния языка и принципы структурирования этих механизмов. При этом возникают следующие вопросы [Felix, Kanngiesser, Rickheit 1990, 1-2]:

1. Репрезентация ментальных механизмов освоения языка
и принципов их структурирования: достаточно ли ограничиться
единой репрезентацией — или же следует представлять эти меха­
низмы в рамках различных репрезентаций? Как взаимодейству­
ют эти механизмы? Каково их внутреннее устройство?

2. Продуцирование. Главный вопрос: основаны ли проду­
цирование и восприятие на одних и тех же единицах системы или
у них разные механизмы? Кроме того: протекают ли во времени
процессы, составляющие продуцирование речи, параллельно или
последовательно? Скажем, строим ли мы сначала общий каркас
предложения, только затем заполняя его лексическим материа­
лом, или же обе процедуры выполняются одновременно, и тогда
как это происходит? Какие подструктуры (например, синтакси­
ческие, семантические, концептуальные и т. д.) фигурируют в
продуцировании речи и как они устроены?

3. Восприятие в когнитивистском ключе исследуется не­
сколько более активно, чем продуцирование речи,— в этом еще
одно проявление интерпретационизма. В связи с этим спрашива­
ется: Какова природа процедур, регулирующих и структурирую­
щих языковое восприятие? Какое знание активизируется посред­
ством этих процедур? Какова организация семантической памя­
ти? Какова роль этой памяти в восприятии и в понимании речи?

В когнитивной лингвистике принимается, что ментальные процессы не только базируются на репрезентациях, но и соответ­ствуют определенным процедурам — "когнитивным вычислени­ям". Для остальных "когнитивных дисциплин" (особенно для ко-

гнитивной психологии) выводы когнитивной лингвистики ценны в той мере, в какой позволяют уяснить механизмы этих самых когнитивных вычислений в целом.

На таком информационно-поискового жаргоне централь­ная задача когнитивной лингвистики формулируется как описа­ние и объяснение внутренней когнитивной структуры и динами­ки говорящего-слушающего. Говорящий-слушающий рассматри­вается как система переработки информации, состоящая из ко­нечного числа самостоятельных компонентов (модулей) и соот­носящая языковую информацию на различных уровнях. Цель ко­гнитивной лингвистики, соответственно,— в исследовании та­кой системы и установлении важнейших принципов ее, а не толь­ко в систематическом отражении явлений языка. Когнитивисту важно понять, какой должна быть ментальная репрезентация языкового знания и как это знание "когнитивно" перерабатыва­ется, т. е., какова "когнитивная действительность". Адекватность и релевантность высказываний лингвистов оцениваются именно под этим углом зрения.

9.2. Язык как объект когнитивной лингвистики

Некоторые лингвисты (например, генеративисты) считают, что языковая система образует отдельный модуль, внеположен-ный общим когнитивным механизмам. Однако чаще языковая деятельность рассматривается как один из модусов "когниции", составляющий вершину айсберга, в основании которого лежат когнитивные способности, не являющиеся чисто лингвистически­ми, но дающие предпосылки для последних. К таким способнос­тям относятся: построение образов и логический вывод на их ос­нове, получение новых знаний исходя из имеющихся сведений, составление и реализация планов.

Лапидарно когнитивистскую точку зрения на значение и референцию можно сформулировать в виде максимы: "Избегай говорить о чем-либо в обход когниции человека". Отсюда — один шаг до признания избыточности термина "референция": ес-

ли ты когнитивист, то имеешь право говорить только о денота-ции языковых выражений.

Однако, без понятия "референции", без опоры на аксиомы "внешнего мира" как установить несамопротиворечивость сужде­ния в языковой форме? Эту проблему ставит когнитивная лин­гвистика перед философией языка. Когнитивисты надеются по­лучить ответ на этот вопрос в рамках следующих теоретических проектов:

1. Построение теории интерпретации текстов (которые,
как известно, иногда содержат взаимоисключающие суждения),
объясняющей логический вывод на естественном языке — "рече­
вое размышление". Такая теория должна давать характеристику
процессам когниции и отношениям между предложениями и
внутри них. Сама человеческая когниция, повторим, моделирует­
ся как "когнитивное вычисление".

2. Разработка науки о "работе мысли" человека, включаю­
щей теорию вычислимости смысла текста, т. е. установления
связности его (логической несамопротиворечивости), при том,
что (вслед за феноменологами) связность суждений о мире счита­
ется коррелятом истинного существования мира.

Так, стартуя с лингвистической площадки, мы заходим на территорию смежных дисциплин. Когнитивисты обречены на междисциплинарность, это предопределено самой их историей. Только общими усилиями психологии, лингвистики, антрополо­гии, философии, компьютерологии (computer science) можно от­ветить на вопросы о природе разума, об осмыслении опыта, об организации концептуальных систем.
